The quality of the picture is not the best for streaming. For historical reason the clip from our very first concert in 2005, when we at the age of 13, run a full gig for 3 x 45 min., and the Beatniks (playing Shadows for 50 years) entered the stage and joined. Lead guitar in Shindig is Tom-Emil and Svein Finjarn. Tom-Emil started on the opening riff, then Svein the next, then Tom-Emil and so on. It has been several months since we where at Lakeside. All impressions have got time to sink in to us. We arrived at Potters International Hotel Thursday evening. It was a pity that Potters International Hotel was so fare away from Lakeside Complex. The bad side was that we got dependencies of two taxi's when travelling between the Potters and Lakeside hotels. Kathy and Roy Cresswell wished us welcome when we arrived at Lakeside International Hotel Friday after noon for sound check. (Kathy said she had heard about us?). The sound check went out relatively OK. There was some sound disparity between the guitars and the drum pad. That was corrected when we performed later that evening. Marius had actually the biggest challenge, to manage the electronic drum pad for his first time. After about ten minutes at the sound check he managed that thing very well. Later the same day at the social evening was a special experience for us when we performed for the “fans of the Shadows” in a fully packed room. And to know that Bruce Welch and several other Shadows musicians from “the past” were present was awesome. Our performance was at the last part of the evening program. When Kathy introduced us, she almost drowned in the applause from the audience? Several of them were present at the sound check earlier that day. Kathy ended the introduction with " - they have been playing Shadows for several years. You will be surprised when you hear them ". (Thanks Kathy!) Foto Per-Henrik Hansen. Nå er det noen måneder siden vi var i Lakeside, England. Inntrykkene har fått tid til å synke inn. Ankom Potters International Hotel torsdag kveld. Bare synd at Potters International Hotel var så langt unna Lakeside. Ble avhengig av 2 taxier når en skulle mellom Potters og Lakeside hotellene. Vi ble godt mottatt av Kathy og Roy Cresswell når vi ankom Lakeside International Hotel. (Kathy sa hun hadde hørt om oss?). Lydprøven fredag gikk relativt bra. Noe missforhold med lydbilde mellom instrumentene. Det ble rettet på ved framføringen senere på kvelden. Marius hadde nok den største utfordringen med den elektroniske trommepadden, som han takla bra etter ti minutter på lydprøven. Senere samme kveld på sosial aften ble en spesiell opplevelse for oss, da vi spilte for "Shadowsfansen". Og ikke bare det, men at Bruce Welch og flere tidligere Shadowsmusikere var tilstede var heftig. Vi var satt opp på siste del av programmet. Da Kathy introduserte oss ble hun overdøvet av applaus fra tilhørerne? Mange av dem var tilstede på lydprøven. Hun avsluttet introduksjonen med "-de har spilt Shadows i flere år. Hallo allesammen, Rob Bradford fra England her. Bare for å si at The Young Ones ga en fantastisk oppvisning på fredagskveldens sosiale aften ved Bruce Welchs Shadowmania. I England har vi et ungt band som heter The Foottappers (alder 12, 15,17 og 19) som fikk alles oppmerksomhet i fjor ved å spille Shadowsmusikk – og blir bare bedre og bedre. Intill sist fredags kveld var Norges The Young Ones en av Scandinavias best bevarte musikalske hemmelighet. Ikke nå lenger. Så snart guttene begynte (tilsynelatende veldig nonchalant) å spille ”Shadoogie” – opplevde jeg det denne nettsides lesere allerede vet – at de hadde noe helt spesielt. Ikke bare musikalske evner – men evnen til å kommunisere og spille med riktig stil. De har den udefinerbare kvalitet som ikke kan læres. Som vi sier i England, de ”Blew me away”!!! Brilliant. De ble ekstatiskt tatt i mot på kveldens show - som jeg håper ga dem mersmak. Jeg kan også fortelle alle at jeg sto ikke langt fra Bruce Welch og han likte deres utmerkede spilling. Også Colin Pryce-Jones (sologitarist i fantastiske Rapiers) sa at spillingen deres (for å være så unge) var utsøkt. Jeg vil selfølgelig gjøre mitt beste for å spre budskapet om denne oppsiktsvekkende unge gruppe og jeg kan nesten ikke vente på å få høre dem spille igjen snart. Hello Everyone, Rob Bradford from England here. Just to say that the Young Ones gave a fantastic performance at the Friday night social event at Bruce Welch's Shadowmania. In England we have a young band called The Foottappers (ages 12, 15, 17 and 19) who came to everyone's attention last year playing the music of the Shadows - they are going from strength to strength. Until last Friday, Norway's Young Ones remained one of Scandinavia's best kept musical secrets. Not any more. I was at the event to prepare my B/Ts for a few Shadows / Bruce Welch vocals (sorry boys - I see that a couple of them claim to dislike singing on the website!!!) for my own performance. Anyway, I was there in the afternoon rehearsal when these young boys arrived with their guitars (& Marius had to quickly get used to a small electronic drum pad). Very few people knew who they were. Now, I've been following The Shadows for nearly 50 years (I started young!!). As soon as the boys started (seemingly very nonchalant) playing "Shadoogie" - I could tell what most of the readers of this site know already - that they had something really special. Not just musical ability - but the ability to communicate and play with real style. They have that indefinable quality which no-one can teach. As we say in England - they 'Blew me away'!!! Brilliant. They were ecstatically received in the evening show - which I hope gave them encouragement. I can also tell everyone that I was standing not far away from Bruce Welch and he really enjoyed their excellent playing. Also, Colin Pryce - Jones (lead guitarist of the fantastic Rapiers) said that their playing (for ones so young) was outstanding. I will certainly do all that I can to spread the word about this exciting young group and I can't wait to hear them play again sometime soon. Dette er et årlig arrangement der Bruce Welch står som arrangør. Til konserten lørdag 22. september har Bruce håndplukket et knippe band som skal delta på konserten. I tillegg skal Bruce Welsh and his Shadows spille. Fredag 21. september har Cathy og Roy Cresswell regien av Pre-Shadowmania. En sosial aften der deltakerne selv står for underholdningen. Begrenset romkapasitet gjør at det er bare plass til 150 personer. Disse plassene var utsolgt etter 6 dager i februar. Vi har fått spilletid for tre melodier. Totalt er spillelisten på 39-40 forskjellige melodier. Nous sommes apparus samedi pour le Sound Check. Le premier groupe a commencé sur scène à 11:00. Notre groupe, lui, a commencé à 18:00 dans le hall principal. Il y avait 39 groupes prévus. Le groupe avant nous a été annulé. Nous sommes arrivés sur scène en 28è position. Cette fois-ci le son était bon et il y avait assez de fumée, contrairement à l'année dernière quand il y avait plus de fumée. Le titre « Messin' With the Kid » avec Tom-Emil à la guitare de fil nous a énormément plu Nous sommes contents de notre prestation. Foto: Lena Kristensen (SF). Finally we were in "Town" again. Well, in Bodoe, participating at the Norwegian Youth Festivals of Art (UKM) in the House of Culture. We show up Saturday for sound check. The first group entered the stage at 11:00. Our group started at 18:00 in the main hall. There were 39 bands on the list. The band before us dropped out. We entered the stage as band 28. This time the sound was good and just enough smoke, in contrast to last year when there was more smoke then sound. The melody Messin' With the Kid with Tom-Emil on lead guitar went out to our satisfaction. We are satisfied with our performance. Please find video clip from the session on our video player.
